The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has announced new regulations to govern the rules on data expiry and out of bundle billing which come into effect on 7 June 2018.

Some of these amendments affect the way that we currently operate. These include a requirement that service providers ensure that data rolls over  on “capped” data packages and that customers receive notification when their usage is at 50%, 80% and 100%.

We have outlined below the changes that we will be making in order to become compliant with these amendments for services currently offered on the Eden Telecom network:

  • We will no longer be offering “capped” data coupons that have a 30 day expiration

  • Consumers can choose between either 90 or 365 day data rollover coupon packages

  • Eden Telecom has also launched two new entry level “uncapped” monthly internet packages, the details of which can be found here: New “Uncapped” packages”

  • The Fair Use Policy(FUP) threshold on all existing “Uncapped” Internet packages have been increased dramatically without any price increases.
